The Rehdener Geestmoor is a giant resting place for migrating cranes in autumn. Over 20000 of these imposing birds have been counted during their evening in-flight into the Rehdener Geestmoor.
At the rewetted former peat cutting areas they find ideal roosts.
At the Moordamm is a viewing tower situated. From here the cranes can be watched without encroachment.

To keep the vegetation open two flocks of sheep graze the Rehdener Geestmoor.
Here it is still traditional sheep farming where the shepherd walks the moors with the flock and his dog.
Agricultural pesticides or fertiliser use is forbidden so that in the interaction with the assimilation of wild plants and herbs a great natural product emerges.
With the description 'Diepholzer Moorschnucke' (white polled heath) this outstanding lamb is being marketed.
