The historical building ensemble of the Syker Vorwerk from the early 18th-century is one of the oldest houses in the town Syke. Bailiffs, district administrators and later senior district managers of the rural district Diepholz lived here till the year 2002. After the last senior district manager moved out the 300 year old building with an area 600sqm was taken over by the non-profit foundation Kreissparkasse Syke and elaborately refurbished.

In autumn 2007 the Syker Vorwerk was opened as centre for contemporary art and shows since then in close collaboration with the district museum Syke changing exhibitions with national and international artists in form of group or individual exhibitions. This way one get an insight into the the trends of contemporary art.
In the 2 ha large garden of the Vorwerk a sculpture park is being created. Here one can view the works by Rita Bieler, Louis Niebuhr and Heike Michaela Walter already.

The 2 ha large garden area of the Syker Vorwerks is sectioned into the small grand park at the house with path system, rotunda and the circular tree population, which was designed in the middle of the 19th-century. The former vegetable and fruit gardens behind it are dissolved. A large lawn was created, which is also used for events.

In both garden areas emerges a sculpture park, which will be extended further next years. Since 2002 there has been the sculpture group 'Waldgeflüster' and the object 'Stammtisch' on show and since 2003 the object group 'Zeughaus' made of beech wood by the well-known Syker sculpture Louis Niebuhr as well as three terracotta sculptures 'Wegzeichen' by the artist Rita Bieler from Stuhr. In June 2010 the installation 'Bienenbeet' with five terracotta plastics by the Düsseldorf ceramic artist Heike Michaela Walter was inaugurated in the rear part of the garden.
